hair loss treatment

Hair loss can be a bit of a taboo subject, but it is much more common than you might expect. Some people are just better at hiding it than others! Studies have found that around 80 million people in the United States have hereditary thinning or baldness, and by the age of 35, two-thirds of American men will notice significantly thinning hair and appreciable hair loss.

Hair loss can have a detrimental effect on your psychological wellbeing with many people feeling self-conscious or embarrassed about their appearance. Social isolation and even depression can occur. Fortunately, a huge amount of time and effort has been invested into finding a solution and now there are a number of different treatments that can reverse the effects of hair loss and trigger healthy regrowth.

Causes of Hair Loss

Frustratingly for many patients, it is not always known exactly what causes some people to lose their hair while others retain a full mane of thick, healthy hair. However, there are some factors that are believed to make you more likely to experience hair loss. These are:

  • Your genetics. A family history of hair loss is the most common cause of the condition. This is known as male-pattern or female-pattern baldness.
  • Hormonal changes and imbalances, such as when a woman becomes pregnant or enters menopause.
  • Taking certain medications and/or supplements.
  • Radiation therapy to the head.
  • Stress, particularly prolonged periods of stress.
  • Specific hair treatments.
  • Underlying illness.

Treatments for Hair Loss

We are delighted to be able to offer three cutting-edge hair loss treatments which are performed in the comfort of our offices in Boca Raton, FL.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP as it is more commonly known is a form of blood therapy which has been found to be helpful in stimulating the growth of new hair. Our blood contains several components, one of which is plasma. Plasma contains white blood cells and platelets, which are rich in growth factors. When these are inserted back into the scalp at the level of the follicles, it prompts their growth. The result? Studies have shown that patients who opt for PRP experience increased hair count, improved hair thickness and extended growth phase of their hair cycle.

The process is meticulous and painstaking, with your blood being taken and then the plasma then separated from the rest of the sample using a centrifuge machine. Once the plasma is prepped and ready, small amounts are injected directly into the scalp at every half inch over the thinning patch of your hair. It is normal for multiple treatments to be performed to achieve optimal results, and results can usually be seen within two to three months.

Nutrafol Supplements

With varieties for both men and women, Nutrafol supplements are a popular alternative to taking harsh prescription drugs in an attempt to prompt hair growth. Nutrafol products use a blend of high quality, botanical ingredients and neutraceuticals meaning that you don’t need to worry about unpleasant side effects or the risks associated with many prescription medications.

Nutrafol works by naturally rebalancing stress and androgen hormones, neutralizing free radicals and fighting inflammation – all common factors amongst patients who experience hair loss. In doing so, it makes your scalp a healthier and better environment for hair to grow.

Clinical research has found that Nutrafol supplements are extremely effective with around 80% of patients experiencing improved hair growth and increased hair thickness.

Micrograft Hair Transplant

Micrografting is a fairly well-known treatment for baldness. First developed in the 1980s it has continued to be a very effective procedure that involves harvesting and transplanting healthy hair follicles into the scalp so that they can create new hair. It is most often recommended when people are told that their hair follicles are dead or in the resting phase and hair is no longer growing of its own accord. Typically, you can expect each graft that is attached to your scalp to contain between one and five hair follicles, which helps to create a very natural and attractive result. Once your healthy hair follicles have been collected, a special ‘punch-like’ device is used to create spaces in the scalp for the follicles to be placed. The grafts are then secured.

Again, patients must be expected to wait several months to see any noticeable result, and it can take a number of months or even a few years before your final result is visible.
