As we get older, our body’s natural production of the substances that keep our skin soft, supple and youthful in appearance begins to decline.
Although the effect is gradual, our skin slowly loses moisture and volume, resulting in thinning, sagging skin and the development of fine lines and wrinkles. Juvéderm® is a form of facial filler. This means that it is designed to restore volume to areas of the face where it is administered using the main ingredient, Hyaluronic Acid, or HA.
HA binds water to our skin, plumping it out and making it appear smooth, radiant and youthful. Hyaluronic acid is also one of the naturally-occurring substances that is affected by aging. By reintroducing hyaluronic acid to those areas of our face where we have lost volume, the fullness of our face can be restored, smoothing out lines and wrinkles and enabling us to look rejuvenated and younger than before.
In addition to filling out fine lines and wrinkles, Juvéderm® can be beneficial reducing the appearance of scarring from acne. This is because by plumping out the skin, it will stretch and scarring will become far less noticeable.
Juvéderm® is an injectable product, and the fillers are injected directly into the skin at the pre-determined locations. Before the procedure, you will be given a topical anesthetic which will help to numb the areas of your face where it is being applied. However, the needle used is extremely thin and patients experience little or no discomfort even without the anesthetic.
Juvéderm® tends to be placed into areas on the lower part of the face, such as the cheeks, around the nose and mouth and along the jawline. Our experienced cosmetic specialists will work with you to determine where best to place your fillers so that you achieve the improvements that you are looking for.
Juvéderm treatment can typically be completed in a lunch break, and there is no downtime required, meaning that you can head straight back to work or your usual daily activities. Some patients experience some light bruising or swelling around the injection sites, but this usually lasts no longer than 48 hours after your procedure.
Juvéderm is a temporary solution and as such, will need to be administered with some regularity in order for you to sustain your results. Exactly how long the effects last can vary between patients, but typically further treatment is required anywhere from four to nine months after the initial series of injections.
